Our children’s learning journey as historians begins in Reception. Through our Early Years curriculum, children are given the opportunities to expand their knowledge and understanding of events, people and changes in the past and develop their investigative and interpretive skills. Children focus on:
Generating thoughts and ideas
Carrying out investigations
Checking and questioning findings
Through our planning of progression, our Lower School pupils build on their Reception foundations and are taught about the people, events and changes to historical periods that they will study more fully when they are in the Upper School. Our aim is for pupils to have a chronologically secure knowledge and understanding of British, local and world history. By the end of their time in the upper school, children are able to identify connections, contrasts and trends over time and develop the appropriate use of historical terms. Through our bespoke curriculum and delivery of it, our wish is for children to have enquiring minds and for them to question their learning in order for them to gain a deeper, richer and more meaningful understanding of our history.
