Brize Norton Primary School has a strong safeguarding culture and is committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. As a team, we undertake regular in-house training and keep up to date with the Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) document. Volunteers also receive an induction from the Headteacher which includes safeguarding.
Safeguarding is at the forefront of our mind during the recruitment process, several members of our team have Safer-Recruitment Training. We keep an up to date Central Record which is regularly monitored by our Safeguarding Governor.
As well as keeping ourselves up to date with the latest information, we also embed safeguarding into our wider curriculum and specifically our PHSE Curriculum for our children. We also work closely with our Police Neighbourhood Officer which is Richard Conner, who delivers assemblies, supports with specific class-based learning as well as being a presence around and support for our school community.
Early Help for Families
At times children and families need a bit of extra support – and when that happens, it’s ok to ask for help.
Early help is there to make sure worries don’t become bigger and you get the support you need at the right time. Early help can make a difference from support, advice and guidance from a teacher, health visitor, midwife, school health nurse, early years practitioner, doctor, voluntary worker or another trusted professional.
Early help brings together all the relevant services in Oxfordshire so they are working in a co-ordinated way to support you as a family. If you feel you could benefit from this help as a family, please contact Mrs Robyn Jones. Please also see the below guide for further information.
Operation Encompass
Our school is part of Operation Encompass which is a national scheme that operates jointly between schools and police forces.
Operation Encompass is the reporting to schools, prior to the start of the next school day, when a child or young person has experienced domestic abuse within the home. This enables us, as a school, to put in the best support when welcoming the child following an incident such as this.
As a school we have a Key Adult, Mrs Robyn Jones as Headteacher and Designated Safeguarding Lead, who has been trained in the Operation Encompass procedures allowing us to then use the information that has been shared, in confidence, to support the child/ren in our care.
The Domestic Abuse Act 2021 identifies children who experience domestic abuse as victims of domestic abuse in their own right.
For further information, see the links below or do telephone the school and ask to speak to Mrs Robyn Jones.
