Our Approach

We are dedicated to ensuring all our children receive a broad, balanced and progressive curriculum here at Brize Norton Primary School; both middle leaders and senior leaders are on a continual cycle of evaluation. We review and reflect on the Intent of our curriculum, as well as monitoring the Implementation and Impact to ensure that our children receive the very best opportunities whilst they are with us, which also ensures the best outcomes for every child.

Throughout our curriculum, we look for opportunities for our children to SHINE: Strive, Help, Inspire, Nurture, Excel.
Where some opportunities are planned for, others are recognised as they naturally occur within the children’s learning experiences. We endeavour to deliver a rich curriculum which fosters a love of learning for life as well as building independent, resilient learners with a ‘can do’ attitude.  Our curriculum has been well thought through with the context of our school, and the children, at its heart.

We believe in the benefit of learning outdoors and all that it has to offer holistically. We offer every class the ability to experience forest school for a school term and are continually looking for opportunities to take children’s learning outside. We use our school grounds and our beautiful village setting to facilitate this as well as provide enrichment activities through topical visits and experiences.
Being a small school of 5 classes, the majority of our wider curriculum for Years 1-6 is created on a 3-year cycle for the Lower School (Years 1 - 3) and the Upper School (Years 4 – 6); whilst the skills for each subject are progressive throughout the school, the knowledge element is founded on the principle of ‘Core and More’.  Some curriculum areas are created on a 2 year cylce and Science is delivered annually. This ensures that all children within the context of our school, receive the correct learning at the correct stage in their journey throughout their schooling.  Do explore the individual curriculum pages to learn more about how each subject is delivered.

Our curriculum meets all statutory National Curriculum 2014 and Early Years Foundation Stage 2021 requirements.  Long-term and Medium-term curriculum plans are reviewed by teaching staff and subject leaders on an annual basis, who ensure that not only the planned curriculum has been taught, but that it also leads into the next cycle phase, thus helping children to build knowledge and skills in all curriculum areas.
